Math and Reading for the Summer
We all know that your child needs to continue to practice their Reading and Math skills over the summer to avoid the 'summer slide' in those areas. On average, teachers have to take around 3-4 weeks at the beginning of the year going over the things the students learned in the LAST year because they have gotten out of practice! Take time off to enjoy the summer months, but try to find some time to read some good books and to review those Math skills that are so important!
To help with this, we have initiated an incentive program for both Math and Reading.
Math materials were distributed at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
In Reading, we want your child to select their own reading material based on their interest and level. Go to the grade level that your child will be entering in the Fall. On that page, there is a calendar that you can use to tally up the minutes they read this Summer. You will also see the required number of minutes to be read. Students that complete the required number of minutes and return the Reading Calendar to their teacher during the first week of school in the Fall will be rewarded with a frozen treat and a coupon worth 10 points that can be applied to any test. Happy Reading!!!
